Carbon Sequestration Solutions

REQUEST SERVICE

Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS, or CCS) projects are gaining momentum across multiple industries as an important component of designing a less carbon-intense future and as a complementary source of income.

Trihydro offers a well-rounded suite of CCS experience for companies wanting to evaluate, implement, and manage CCS projects and assets. Our team’s CCS project portfolio includes active engagements in multiple Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regions, various primacy states, and a smaller subset of these projects are also pursuing California Air Resources Board (CARB) site/project certifications.

Project Economics and Feasibility

PROJECT ECONOMICS AND FEASIBILITY

As companies explore potential CCS project viability, multiple economic considerations take center stage in the project viability evaluation. Two of the more prevalent considerations of project viability involve: 1) understanding and acquiring 45Q tax credits, and 2) quantifying project life cycle costs. CCS projects can require large initial capital commitments, along with ongoing operational and long-term liability costs.

MONITORING WELLS

DESIGNING AND EXECUTING STRATIGRAPHIC, INJECTION, AND DEEP MONITOR WELLS

Trihydro’s CCS team has experience with engineering design and cost determination, testing, and supporting operation of underground injection control (UIC) wells for monitoring and injection, as well as assistance with installation of stratigraphic wells often needed to determine the reservoir and geologic properties underlying a proposed CCS project. The ability to inject and effectively monitor sequestered CO2 is integral to a carbon capture program’s success. Trihydro understands the importance of providing accurate, high-quality data to support informed decision-making by our clients.

TESTING & MONITORING

TESTING AND MONITORING

Effective testing and monitoring programs are integral to any CCS project’s efficient, safe, and regulatory-compliant operation. Trihydro designs, implements, and manages surface, near surface, and deep baseline environmental testing and monitoring (BETM) programs with remote monitoring telemetry, and supports ongoing monitoring associated with aquifers, ecosystem/vegetation stress, and the soil/vadose zone.

DATA MANAGEMENT & REPORTING
DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

Large volumes of environmental and operational data are collected during the BETM program implementation and throughout the life cycle of a CCS project. Data management needs may include the quality assurance and surveillance plans; the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) plan; the testing and monitoring plan; the pre-operational logging and testing plan; and the post-injection site care and site closure plan. Carbon capture projects also have stringent data validation, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements. Effectively managing and analyzing these data are an important success metric.

Class VI UIC Permit
Solano County, California

Trihydro is coordinating the Class VI permitting and the California Air Resources Board Low Carbon Fuel Standard (CARB LCFS) permanence certification for a proposed regional center focused on annually sequestering millions of tons of CO2. Additionally, Trihydro is actively engaged in developing the baseline environmental testing and monitoring program for surface and near-surface project areas.

Class VI UIC Permit and Baseline Monitoring
USEPA Region 7

As part of a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project in USEPA Region 7, Trihydro is preparing and submitting a Class VI Carbon Sequestration well permit application, overseeing the CARB site/project certification package, and conducting continuous baseline testing and monitoring for both shallow subsurface and eco-vegetation survey programs.

quote-start

The team at Trihydro was one of the best project swat teams I’ve ever worked with. They organized and generated an entire Class VI CCS permit application in a few months when they normally require over a year to create. Moreover, it was nearly perfect and passed administrative review shortly after submission. They are efficient, knowledgeable, responsive, and very professional. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
