Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)

REQUEST SERVICE

Fossil fuel producers, users, and other greenhouse gas emitters are actively seeking ways to reduce and manage carbon emissions due to concerns about climate change. One strategy that is gaining momentum is carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). The Federal IRS tax credit program, under Section 26 U.S. Code § 45Q, provides lucrative incentives to encourage the adoption of CCUS initiatives. The increasing prominence of CCUS initiatives signifies a paradigm shift in how industries approach environmental stewardship. Reducing carbon emissions is no longer seen merely as a regulatory compliance measure but as a strategic opportunity to shape a sustainable future in an economically viable way.

Trihydro provides comprehensive carbon capture and storage solutions for companies looking to assess, implement, and manage a variety of CCUS projects and assets. Our team's CCUS project portfolio includes active engagements in multiple Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regions and various primacy states, and a subset of these projects are also pursuing California Air Resources Board (CARB) site/project certifications.

MONITORING WELLS

DESIGNING AND EXECUTING CCUS WELLS

Trihydro’s team has experience with engineering design and cost determination, testing, and supporting operation of underground injection control (UIC) wells for monitoring and injection, as well as assistance with installation of stratigraphic wells used to determine the reservoir and geologic properties underlying a proposed carbon capture and sequestration project. The ability to inject and effectively monitor sequestered CO2 is integral to a carbon capture and sequestration program’s success. Trihydro understands the importance of providing accurate, high-quality data to support informed decision-making by our clients.

TESTING & MONITORING
CCUS TESTING AND MONITORING

Effective testing and monitoring programs are integral to any carbon capture and sequestration project’s efficient, safe, and regulatory-compliant operation. Baseline monitoring programs are essential for establishing pre-injection environmental conditions. This baseline data can then be used to compare against potential environmental impacts that may arise after injection operations being and in response to any future complaints.

OUR CCUS MONITORING AND REPORTING SOFTWARE

EnFlection® is transforming the site monitoring and data management process for carbon capture and sequestration projects. From data upload and validation, to reproducible report-ready documents, EnFlection’s workflows, security, and scalability help simplify complex projects.

EnFlection® provides environmental staff, carbon capture and sequestration project managers, corporate managers, and other designated stakeholders with the tools and capabilities they need to manage monitoring and reporting data effectively.

  • EnFlection helps manage project workflow and regulatory expectations by enabling facility personnel to:
  • Facilitate seamless data management for single project sites or an entire CSS project portfolio.
  • Manage data related to CO2 streams, injection well operations, groundwater, site characterization, atmosphere and soil gas, permit conditions/statistical thresholds, and regulatory standards/exceedances.
  • Collect and access reporting data for CSS injection well and pipeline operations, well logging, and seismic survey summaries.
  • Save and segment data searches by any combination of filters and fields and compare them to regulatory standards or custom limits.
  • Generate automated tables, figures, and analyses tailored to specific regulatory programs.
  • Export and readily integrate data into the EPA Geologic Sequestration Data Tool (GSDT) or other relevant regulatory programs.
  • Gain valuable insights with customizable dashboards that provide real-time data visualization and analysis.
  • Tailor dashboards to your specific needs and effectively track key performance indicators (KPIs).

The team at Trihydro was one of the best project swat teams I’ve ever worked with. They organized and generated an entire Class VI CCS permit application in a few months when they normally require over a year to create. Moreover, it was nearly perfect and passed administrative review shortly after submission. They are efficient, knowledgeable, responsive, and very professional. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Class VI UIC Permit
Solano County, California

Trihydro is coordinating the Class VI permitting and the California Air Resources Board Low Carbon Fuel Standard (CARB LCFS) permanence certification for a proposed regional center focused on annually sequestering millions of tons of CO2. Additionally, Trihydro is actively engaged in developing the baseline environmental testing and monitoring program for surface and near-surface project areas.

Class VI UIC Permit and Baseline Monitoring
USEPA Region 7

As part of a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project in USEPA Region 7, Trihydro is preparing and submitting a Class VI Carbon Sequestration well permit application, overseeing the CARB site/project certification package, and conducting continuous baseline testing and monitoring for both shallow subsurface and eco-vegetation survey programs.

Class II Injection Wells: Unlocking the Hidden Value of CO2 in Oil & Gas Production

Recent advances in carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) have dramatically changed the financial impacts for oil and gas upstream and midstream companies that manage produced CO2. While the attention has primarily been on utilizing Class VI wells for claiming the tax credits, an alternative, and possibly more advantageous option for oil and gas companies, are Class II Injection wells.
